(Updated 2:04 p.m.) Montgomery County Police have identified several suspects in connection with an apparent flash mob theft at a 7-Eleven in Germantown late Saturday.
Investigators have released surveillance footage Monday afternoon with hopes of identifying more people.
Nearly 30 people simultaneously entered the 7-Eleven at 13001 Wisteria Drive and stole snacks, police said in a press release Monday. Police said the suspects — some of whom had their faces covered — remained in the store for about a minute before exiting as a group.
While investigators have identified some of the suspects, police have asked that anyone who may recognize any of the suspects in the video to contact the 5th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6200. Callers may remain anonymous.

More than 20 young people simultaneously entered the convenience store at around 1:30 a.m., leaving with snack items such as candy, soda pop and chips, said Germantown 5th district Cmd. Luther Reynolds.
Apparent surveillance footage obtained by NBC Washington shows a stream of young people — some of the smiling and laughing — entering the convenience store and leaving with out paying.
“To have that many people descend on a store, like a mob mentality, like it’s some kind of joke, I cannot say I’ve ever seen anything like that before,” Reynolds told Patch. “It’s embarrassing to our community.”
Reynolds told Patch that police have already begun to identify suspects. The exact location of the store had not been released because the store’s owner is afraid of being targeted, Reynolds said.

kids are dumb. where was this large group prior to entering seven eleven? we might gain more insight into who they are. it seems unlikely that an entire group of people would meet to steal snacks at 1:30. so dumb...

The mayor of Philadelphia addressed this matter last week. It was a wonderful speech by a leader of society. This is the same "speech" that our county executive, Isiah Leggett, needs to give and on a NATIONAL LEVEL, our President, Barack Obama, needs to say to the country. Since they have identified some of the kids I think it only fitting since they are minors that the parents do some jail time and face a substantial fine as well as reparations to the store. Lets start placing the blame where it lies. The parents should either know where the kids are and screen the friends they hang with. All cell phone should be confiscated if they use them for theft.

It's not about them being black because all races do this. I'm a African American teen age girl and they put me to shame when I see this. I only wish Martin Luther King Jr. were here to see this and talk to these kids.

i wonder what their parents have to say. i work with young people and when i have to send them home for not during thier job, using profanity or caught stealing or not folling directions many of thier parents say not my child. you picking on my child but when they call out becausce thier in police custody, huh, not my child is the parents telling the police.

These kids don't care if they're caught or not. They know that because they are minors, the worse they'll get is a slap on the wrist. Hopefully those caught will go in front of a judge as outraged as I am.

Every group activity that is organized via social media is not a flash mob: http://bit.ly/oz4Qwb. Flash mobs, by definition, are not criminal acts; therefore, there is no such thing as "flash mob theft." It is so frustrating to see this inaccuracy all over the media.
