Found Guilty of Manslaughter, Dashiell Demands New Trial
Defense attorney contends the men were engaged in a mutual fight
A Germantown man found guilty of beating his friend to death during a fistfight is demanding a new trial.
Brenden Lamont “BJ” Dashiell, 25, was found guilty of manslaughter on March 6, after a two-day trial in Montgomery County Circuit Court, following the death of Justin Eugene Carter, 28, of Gaithersburg, on July 2.
Dashiell’s attorney, Montgomery County Assistant Public Defender Adam Harris told The Gazette that his client was not criminally responsible for the death and maintained that the two men were involved in a mutual fight — echoing the same arguments he made during the trial.
The defense filed a motion for a new trial on Thursday, March 15, according to court records accessed online.
A spokesman for the State’s Attorney’s Office said prosecutors were content with the verdict, The Gazette reports.
