Germantown Native Named ‘College Entrepreneur of the Year’ Finalist

Neil Soni founded web-based college prep services The College People and CollegeZen

Germantown native and Northwest High School graduate Neil Soni was named a finalist for Entrepreneur Magazine’s 2012 College Entrepreneur of the Year.

Soni, a senior at Carnegie Mellon University, founded web-based college prep service The College People and recently unveiled its offshoot CollegeZen, which uses a compatibility algorithm to match student profiles with potential schools.

Five student entrepreneurs were listed as finalists, according to the contest’s website, including a student from Johns Hopkins University who created a medical device for stitching medium and large incisions.

According to Soni, the winner receives $5,000 and a trip to a networking event in Dallas, a chance to meet with investors.

Voting ends Sept. 15, Soni told Patch.

People can vote via Facebook or text, according to the contest’s site.
