This week's events are fun and eclectic: learn to be a detective, hunt for teddy bears, make a hat for your doll and more! Here are this week's best bets for Germantown area families:
• THE GREAT FREDERICK FAIR
Still haven't made it to a fair this year? Drive to neighboring Frederick County, Md., and enjoy live music, a kids expo, farm animals, a jousting exhibition, a birthing center (with baby piglets) and more! Check the schedule of events for details.

• TIME FOR TWOS
This special story time is just for children ages 24 monts to 35 months and their caregivers. The library requests no siblings please.

• MUNCH ON A HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCH
MCPS' Parent Academy is holding this free event to teach parents and children how to pack a healthy school lunch. This interactive session will be held in both English and Spanish. Register online or call 301-517-5940 or 301-279-3100.

• ST. ROSE OF LIMA FIESTA
Celebrate Fiesta with St. Rose! Kids can enjoy pony rides, a moon bounce, face painting and decorating pumpkins while parents shop the flea market and book nook for children's clothes, books and toys. The event closes with a 5 p.m. Mass. Check the schedule for specific event times and details.

• AMERICAN GIRL DOLL EVENT
Kids ages 3 and older are invited to bring their American Girl dolls and make them a chef hat and a breakfast plate. The event starts at 10 a.m. and will continue through noon (while supplies last).

• NATIONAL HUNTING AND FISHING DAY CELEBRATION
Children of all ages will be introduced to the outdoors at this fun event. Kids can go on a hike to hunt for teddy bears, try their hand at fishing, learn about archery and trap shooting, view conservation exhibits and more. Call 301-972-1645 for details.

• JUNIOR DETECTIVE DAY
Kids once again have a chance to earn a junior detective badge by working with Gaithersburg police officers. Learn about I.D. badges, fingerprinting and neighborhood safety, watch K9 demonstrations, and check out a real police car and motorcycle! Lunch is included. This program is geared toward kids ages 6 to 14; children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Reservations are required; call 301-258-6425 to reserve space for you and your child.

• A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD
The Theatre for Young Audiences version of this musical follows two friends — cheerful Frog and rather grumpy Toad — through a year of seasonal activities that celebrate their friendship.
