BlackRock Center for the Arts will end its Third Thursday season by lounging around its black box theater.
That is, with the help of D.C.-based jazz quintet Chaise Lounge.
The group performs at 7:30 p.m. April 19 and is the final act of the arts venue's Third Thursday at the BlackRock Bistro series.
According to their press materials, the performers — Charlie Barnett, Tommy Barrick, Gary Gregg, John Jensen and Pete Ostle, with vocalist Marilyn Older — were going for something evocative of Capitol Records “circa-1962” or “Lounge with a capital ‘L’”.
From the clips we’ve heard, Chaise Lounge attempts to blend up its lounge-y-ness: Equal parts dirty martini for each track that’s moody, atmospheric or nostalgic.
The BlackRock stop precedes an insomnia-themed cocktail party/performance named for the group’s latest album, “Insomnia,” on Saturday, April 21, at The Hamilton.
