Public schools in Montgomery County will close Wednesday, Sept. 26, in observance of Yom Kippur, a Jewish holy day.
Yom Kippur marks the end of the annual High Holy Day period (Sept. 16 to Sept. 26 in 2012), which begins with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. On Sept. 25, observation will begin at sunset.
Classes will resume on Thursday, Sept. 27.

This has been nagging at me for years, but is it not time that we join the 21st century and maybe, just maybe, become a secular nation, where government does not give religious holidays? As other religions grow, there will be additional days off given throughout the school year until there are more days off than school days. I can see that we will have Pastafarian Friday's (every Friday off) in honor of the FSM (may he douse us in his marinara). But in reality, let us just change this and have no religous holidays sponsored (honored) by the government. The constitution mentions religion twice, both times preceded by the word "no".

Oh hell to the No No No! This Country USA was founded and raised upon The Holy Bible, The word of God. Jesus Christ the son of God. And any christianity is not a religion it's a relationship with Christ the king of Kings. And any other religions that don't acknowledge Jesus as God one and only beloved son. Should and won't get holidays off in this Christian Nation. Whoever denies him is a enemy of God. God is in Complete Control. And you nor anyone knows what's in the future, but God. Know believe.it and Continue to follow Jesus......No Muslims.holidays ever on USA. Who really cates about muslims holidays! This country wasn't built upon the Koran.......why would we celebrate a religion who's prophet married and had sex.with a 9yr.old girl.........see even the muslims who believe in this religion don't know they are believing in lies and are supporting the anti Christ instead of believing in The Lord Jesus Christ, The son of God. Amen.....Now wake up people because he's coming back for the pure & righteous on him. So in conclusion Jesus is a jew and anything pertaining him in whatever celebration respect that.......In His Mercy

@Stace. Have you read the constitution? In 1797, John Adams signed the Treaty of Tripoli stating "The government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded upon the Christian religion" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli)
I could spout off a plethora of verses from the bible just as disgusting.
So no Stacie, the USA was not founded on the bible, we are/should be a secular nation despite the efforts of the right wing and the "un"moral majority.
If you are going to state something use facts!
