Nats Help Dedicate Miracle League Field in Boyds

Dedication ceremony is Monday for new adaptive-use field at South Germantown Recreational Park

The Washington Nationals will help the Miracle League celebrate its new field at South Germantown Recreational Park.

On Monday, the Nats, state and Montgomery County government leaders, and local community organizations will dedicate the baseball field, which is designed for children and young adults with disabilities, county officials announced Monday.

The field incorporates a cushioned, synthetic turf that allows children in wheelchairs and walkers to “run” the bases.

Councilman Craig Rice (D-2nd district) said Tuesday that he planned to attend the ceremony.

The Miracle League of Montgomery County is a nonprofit organization whose aim is to offer young athletes with disabilities the chance to play baseball. The field was made possible with the help of the Washington National’s nonprofit Dream Foundation, The Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Foundation and the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda, according to the press release.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Department of Parks and the Montgomery County Recreation Department also helped establish the field, according to the release.
