Northwest alumni Ivar Ramiro Candia, 18, of Germantown, died Friday from injuries sustained when the vehicle he was driving collided with a dump truck, according to Montgomery County Police.
His brother Jonathan Candia, 17, was in the backseat, and cousin Rodolfo Louis Nogales, 33, was in the front passenger seat. Both were taken to Shady Grove Hospital, police said.
Jonathan was listed in stable condition. Nogales was listed in critical condition, according to police.
Candia was a 2010 graduate of Northwest High School. His brother Jonathan is a junior at Northwest.
High school administrators have asked the public to send a check or money order made payable to Northwest High School and note that it is for the Candia family, according to an email from Northwest Principal Lance Dempsey.
Montgomery County Police officer Janelle Smith said the accident happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Germantown and Middlebrook Roads. Smith said an Audi, driven by Candia, was traveling north on Middlebrook when it collided with a trash hauler traveling west on Germantown Road.
Smith said the truck had the flashing yellow light at the intersection and the vehicle had the flashing red light. The Audi passed through the intersection when the collision occurred.
Candia was transported to Shady Grove Hospital, where he later died.
The dump truck driver, Roger Terry Anthony, 58, of Burtonsville, was not injured and remained on scene, Smith said.
