Northern Montgomery County could see 1 to 3 inches of snow on Thursday, and regions within the beltway could see 3 to 5.

According to the National Weather Service, a low-pressure system is expected to move through the region Thursday afternoon, bringing with it the possibility for snow and hazardous weather.

The State Highway Administration has urged motorists to prepare for a “difficult” Thursday afternoon commute.

Montgomery County has been placed under a winter storm watch, in effect from Thursday morning to Thursday night.

But there are those who doubt the snow will be as bad as the NWS predicts.

In a series of posts and tweets, The Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang said the storm had the potential to produce “shovelable snow” but went on to say the storm:

“ … also has the potential to skirt us to the south giving us only light precipitation or even none at all (note: the latest European model shows NO snow for D.C. and points north).”
