UPDATE: Missing Teen Girls Located
A 12-year-old Montgomery Village girl and 14-year-old Gaithersburg girl had been missing since Jan. 23, police said.

Montgomery County police said Karina Cornejo-Galdmaez, 12, and Rosa Rivas-Ascencio, 14, were located safe and unharmed Thursday morning in Wheaton.

Montgomery County police are asking the public for help in locating two girls from the Gaithersburg area.
Karina Cornejo-Galdmaez, 12, of the 9300 block of Merust Lane in Montgomery Village, and Rosa Rivas-Ascencio, 14, of the 18000 block of Nathans Place in Gaithersburg, were last seen at their respective middle schools at 2:30 p.m. dismissal on Jan. 23.
Cornejo-Galdmaez was at Montgomery Village Middle School, while Rivas-Ascencio was at Neelsville Middle School in Germantown, police said.
Cornejo-Galdmaez is described as a Hispanic female, approximately 5 feet tall, and weighing 105 pounds. She has brown eyes, brown shoulder length hair, and has a piercing on the right side of her lower lip. She was last seen wearing a black, North Face jacket, blue jeans, and a black shirt.
Rivas-Ascencio is described as a Hispanic female, approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing 113 pounds. She has brown eyes and black shoulder length hair. She was last seen wearing a gray sweater and dark blue jeans.
Police said they believe the girls are traveling together and could be in the area of Langley Park, MD.
Anyone who has information regarding the whereabouts of Karina Cornejo-Galdamez and/or Rosa Rivas-Ascencio is asked to immediately contact the Montgomery County Police Family Crimes Division at 240-773-5400 or police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000. Callers may remain anonymous.

Relieved to hear these young girls found safe/unharmed. The Amber Alert is a God-send. But there is going to come a time when folks are going to ignore & not bother to lookout for missing children (the almost 'cry wolf' scenario) because too many are becoming cases where these teens have 'no sense' & no respect for rules (that I certainly hope these parents are setting though I fear most are not). Rules that set boundaries of where they venture from home & rules that both parents & their children have respect for 'each other' in informing each at all times where they are going to be. I know that was 'rule of thumb' in my home & still is And there has to be some punishment in place legally when it is a case of kids just believing they have 'free reigns' to do whatever they want, go wherever they want w/o obtaining parental permission. This total disregard for 'boundaries' is costing police manhours and citizen worry/alarm.

The alert said they were beleaved to be traveling together... There was no cry wolf here... The parents were scared to death and anyrhing could of happend to these kids. The alert was needed and worked...... Yes agree kids need to quit acting like they can do whatever they want. But the alerts are tjere to bring kids home safe. Not to find them dead. Is that the out come you were hopeing for... Cuz it sure sounds like it.

No, Tiffany! Sorry you somehow chose to interpret in such a horrendous perception!! Far from what any human being or parent themself would ever wish. And, as stated, Amber Alert was the best thing ever to be passed into law to help (as a community and concerned society) to jointly watch out for OUR children. And, when I say 'our', I mean every child on 'face of the earth'. Never want to discourage or minimize the Amber Alert in place, for darn sure. But we do need something else as well in place that lets other kids know that there will be consequences for putting parents & we concerned 'members of the same planet' into fearful turmoil.

I am only sorry, Tiffany, this Amber Alert wasn't in effect when I was growing up. I knew the parents! Even the years gone by have not minimized their pain & suffering.

I will say, Tiffany, (& having no clue of your age) back when I was growing up neighbors watched out for neighbors. (Neighbors could even reprimand neighborhood children w/o fear of parents in their face or calling police or threatening them with lawsuits for even scolding their children when it was warranted.) We knew long before the phrase became a 'catch phrase' decades later that it did indeed "Take a Village" to watch over our children. And, even w/o Amber Alert (where flashing alerts on highways may have assisted more back then) the police, community and even State officials joined together 'with no hesitation' in trying to locate these girls. Just a shame and painful that to this day it remains a 'Cold Case'! So, was I looking for dire outcomes with these two missing girls. I found that extremely offensive but gave you benefit of the doubt that you misinterpreted!
