School Board Votes to Recommend School Upgrades for Germantown

The Montgomery County School Board voted unanimously to submit a recommendation to the County Council

The Montgomery County School Board Voted unanimously tonight to recommend the County Council to amend the capital budget to include a series of construction projects for County schools. The recommendations, costing a total of  $8.64 million, include two options for accommodating for overcrowding in Germantown elementary schools.

The first option would include building a new elementary school for the Northwest cluster, to accommodate students from M. Matsunaga Elementary School and Great Seneca Creek Elementary School. The other option would be to rebuild Germantown Elementary School and build an addition to Great Seneca Creek Elementary School. 

Superintendent Jerry Weast released his recommendments for the 2012 capital budget, and amendments to the 2011-2016 Capital Improvements Program on Oct. 28.

Weast's amendments would restore funding for three existing County projects and provide funding for new maintenance and upgade-related projects that were previously removed by the County Council when they adopted the Capital Improvements Program.
