SPEAK OUT: 2012 Emmy Nominees

Who deserves to be on the list? And, who got snubbed? Share you thoughts in our poll and in the comments section.

On Thursday, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards, which will air on Sept. 23.

Leading the pack were Mad Men and American Horror Story, with 17 nominees each. The Washington Post reported that if Mad Men wins TV’s best drama for the fifth consecutive year, it would be a record for most wins in the drama category.

Among others recognized were popular comedies Modern Family, 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and newcomers Veep and Girls.

Dramas competing for the win against Mad Men include HBO’s Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, as well as Breaking Bad, Homeland and Downton Abbey.

Notably missing from the nominations list were popular shows Glee, Justified, Community and Parks and Recreation.

And while Mad Men arguably received its fair share of recognition, the academy failed to include John Slattery (aka Roger Sterling) in the supporting actor category and the show’s costume designer, Janie Bryant, in the outstanding costumes category.

So what did the academy get right—and who was completely snubbed? Which show deserves to be the Outstanding Drama? How about Outstanding Comedy? Tell us in our poll and in the comments.
