Why go: Do you love to sing? Sing with the men from Harmony Express! They are the 2010 Southern Division AA Champions and 2011 Southern Division 2nd Place Chorus and Most Improved Chorus! Why go: The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County is having a Cat Adoption Open House at its no-kill almost-cage-free cat shelter located in Old Town Gaithersburg at 12 Park Ave.
In the shelter, visit a homelike setting and have cats interact with you while you decide which to take home. All cats and kittens come complete with shots/vaccines and have been spayed or neutered. The adoption fee is $50 per cat this month.

The league is a nonprofit organization completely run by volunteers and depending on donations to fund its programs.

When: Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m.
Why go: The Waters Landing Association is trying to bring a new farmers market to Germantown. If enough people attend, it could become an ongoing event. Dragonfly Farms (www.dffarms.com) will be at the inaugural event and will be offering fresh produce, flowers, pastries and other goodies.

MSP Quilting Angels: Quilt for Soldiers and Children
Where: Mother Seton Parish, 19951 Father Hurley Blvd., Germantown.
When: Saturday, Aug. 18, at 9 a.m.
Why go: Join a dynamic group of women as they make Quilts of Valor, for soldiers touched by war, and Quilts for Kids, for children diagnosed with cancer. Stay all day or stop by for whatever time you have. Quilters meet about twice a month. Future dates may be subject to change.

Where: Seneca Creek State Park, 11950 Clopper Rd., Gaithersburg.
When: Friday, Aug, 17, at 7 p.m.
Why go: Enjoy a relaxing and informative boat ride on Clopper Lake. This is a great way to see the lake without getting wet! Tours last approximately 45 minutes. Buy tickets and meet at the Boat Center.

Free Dance Concerts at Bethesda Metro Center
Where: 3 Bethesda Metro Center, Bethesda.

Laugh Out Loud with Fuddy Meers at Art Barn
Where: The Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Rd., Gaithersburg.
When: Aug. 10 through 26, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Why go: Fuddy Meers tells the story of Claire, an amnesiac who awakens each morning as a blank slate. As she attempts to regain her memory one morning, she is abducted by a limping, lisping man who claims her husband wants to kill her. This sets off one harrowing turn after another as Claire spends the day trying to decipher her fractured life while being surrounded by a group of bizarre characters.
“Like the resourceful chef who turns leftovers into haute cuisine, Mr. Lindsay-Abaire blends clichéd ingredients into something savory and distinctive...[a] dark, sweet and thoroughly engaging comedy," The New York Times reported.
