Winter Weather Watch

Concern over whether Wednesday's snow forecast would roil evening commutes spurred early dismissals.

The National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Montgomery County until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Light to moderate snow was forecasted across north and central Maryland into the evening hours, with an accumulation of as much as a half inch by 6 p.m., according to the NWS.

In preparation for the quick moving storm, crews applied a salt brine solution to highways and major roads on Tuesday, State Highway Administration officials said.

Federal employees were given the option to leave work early, due to the threat of a snowy evening commute, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management posted the notice late Wednesday morning.

The Department of Energy's headquarters is in Germantown.

Thursday is expected to be clear, with a high of 44, though there's a slight a slight chance of snow in Friday's forecast, according to the NWS.
