This game had a playoff atmosphere with a large crowd at hand. Many family, friends and schoolmates showed up to say goodbye to seniors Max Banks, Nick Buck, Tony Cianci, Steve D'Amato, Joey Moeltner, and Nick Siegel. All the Jag players wanted to win this game for the seniors and they tried their best by going two extra innings. Joey Moeltner took the mound in search of third win of the season. The first inning, Moeltner was able to get out of a jam with one run across by Whitman. The Jags tied the game in the second on a lead off single by Moeltner. Later, he was able to steal second and eventually scored on a Tony Cianci RBI single. The game became obvious that it was going to be a pitchers duel with Moeltner pitching his heart out. The Jags ended a Whitman threat in the fourth with another solid defensive double play from Scotty Ardoin to JJ Jan to Ryan Teachum. With the game still tied in regulation, Jags had opportunities to win the game but Whitman showed their prowess on the field as well. Moeltner took to the hill in the ninth inning still pitching strong and believing in his defense. A Whitman player hit a line drive shot to outfield for what was sure going to be a base hit, when all of the sudden Siegel dove for the ball, caught it and robbed him of a hit. Certainly the web gem of the game but Whitman was undeterred. The next batter was walked and the following batter hit a shot to deep left field scoring the lead run to go ahead 2-1. The Jags, with its last inning to tie the game, threaten when Siegel hit a single. Mike Shannon grounded out moving Siegel into scoring position but the Jags couldn't get him across to lose 2-1 in nine innings of play. The Jags finish the regular season this Monday at 5:15 with a road trip to current 4A East division winner Magrudar.
