Last weekend, on Friday, December 14, Rockville's own O.A.R. performed their second benefit concert in three years in support of their Heard The World Foundation at The Music Center at Strathmore. Proceeds from the event go towards the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports severely injured service members, and educational programs in Youngstown, Ohio, where saxophonist Jerry DePizzo is from.
The band founded the Heard the World Foundation in 2006 in support of youth, education, and sustainable programs in the U.S. and abroad.
“My musical education came from grade school, middle school and high school…so, it was really important to me and the rest of the guys to make sure that we can do what we can to make sure kids all over the country can do the same thing,” says DePizzo.
Friday's show marked O.A.R's first ever performance with a symphony, The Beethoven Found Philharmonic.
The benefit comes on the heels of their just released DVD/CD 'Live on Red Rocks' which features their July concert at the famed outdoor venue as well as a 40 minute documentary of the band's 2012 'Summer Crush' Tour.
