Community Dance Day at BlackRock on May 12

BlackRock Center for the Arts is hosting its first Community Dance Day. Sixteen different dance studios and schools will present over 20 short dance performances featuring talented, up-and-coming professional and non-professional dancers ages 8-adult working in a wide array of dance styles. Groups will perform on BlackRock’s Mainstage and outdoor stage.

Community Dance Day is one week before the inaugural BlackRock DanceFest, which features performances by six highly accomplished professional dance companies: ClancyWorks Dance Company; Life, Rhythm, Move Project; Dance Place Step Team; Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh Dance Company; Maryland Youth Ballet; and Karen Reedy Dance.

Participants

Dance studios/schools applied to participate in Community Dance Day and were selected by a jury comprised of Karen Bernstein, Artistic Director of BlackRock DanceFest; Charlotte Sommers, BlackRock Executive Director; and Kimberly Marshall, BlackRock dance faculty member. The selected companies are from Montgomery County, Frederick County, Md., Washington and Northern Virginia. They are:

No advance reservations are needed; dancing in the aisles is encouraged.
