DESCRIPTION:BlackRock Center for the Arts is exhibiting works of mixed me
dia\, collage\, photography\, oil and charcoal by the artists Sabine Car
lson\, Evelyn Jacob\, and Elroy Williams in its Main Gallery. The exhibi
 t runs April 18-May 19\, Monday-Thursday 10:00-8:00\, Friday 10:00-6:00
and Saturday 10:00-2:00. There is an Artist Reception on Saturday\, Apri
 l 21 from 5:30-7:30. &nbsp\;The reception\, like the exhibit\, is free a
nd open to the public.About the Artists&nbsp\;Sabine Carlson&nbsp\;is pa
inter who has been working on the East Coast since 1995. She has exhibit
ed widely in the U.S. as well as in Germany\, France\, Italy and the Cze
ch Republic. Her work is included in corporate\, public and private coll
ections in Germany\, Italy\, the Netherlands\, and in the United States.
&nbsp\;Carlson&rsquo\;s imagery of trees\, helicopters\, and dogs resid
e in semi- abstract pictorial spaces that recall landscape. Real life hi
erarchies of gravity\, proportion\, and size don&rsquo\;t apply in the p
aintings\; dogs sometimes sleep in trees or move around obstacles along
unseen paths. Helicopters are shown most often without their rotors and
hang in the air like whales. Trees are stuck in place but mobile and nim
ble in their branches. The paintings&rsquo\; narratives are open and all
ow many possible twists and turns as they trace the intertwined nature o
 f power and vulnerability.&nbsp\;Much of&nbsp\;Evelyn Jacob&rsquo\;s&nbs
p\;work explores the details of the natural world\, revealing the extrao
rdinary in the ordinary. Her images reflect her emotional responses to t
he light\, tonality\, pattern\, line and color in her subjects. &nbsp\;P
hotographs in her series &ldquo\;Hidden Worlds: Leaves in Ice&rdquo\; we
re made in local ponds and streams during winters since December\, 2007.
Images in this new body of work span the realistic and the abstract\, e
xhibit subtle patterns through surprisingly vivid colors and visual exci
tement through sparkling angled light. The images convey a wide array of
emotional qualities\, from peacefulness or delicacy to excitement or mo
tion to sense of the sublime.A New York City native\,&nbsp\;Elroy Willia
ms&nbsp\;graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan\, where h
e majored in fine arts and painting as well as commercial art. To achiev
e his goal of connecting with people and provoking thought through his a
rt\, he uses a variety of media\, alone and sometimes in combination. Wi
lliams&rsquo\; work has recently appeared in regional and national jurie
d exhibitions at the Strathmore Mansion\, the Metropolitan Center for th
 e Visual Arts\, and Montgomery College.&nbsp\;
