About the Exhibit
The exhibit features the work of 25 East Coast-based artists working with fiber. Fiber art is a style of fine art which uses textiles such as fabric, yarn, and natural and synthetic fibers. It focuses on the materials and on the manual labor involved as part of its significance. It includes anything made of fiber, from quilted pieces to sculptural works, using sewing, weaving, wrapping or similar techniques to create works that are either two- or three-dimensional.
BlackRock’s goal for this exhibit is to promote local area fiber artists and give East Coast collectors an exhibit of exceptional quality. Founder Jodi Walsh first started this exhibit at APEX Gallery in Washington DC. The exhibit was reviewed by The Washington Post and grew into an outstanding exhibit. The Smithsonian supported the exhibit by giving annual tours to their collectors.
