A Dog's Eye View of the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival

This weekend I went to the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.  I was asked to help handout postcards advertising the MCHS's upcoming Love Ball, but thought I might as well wear my new "Adopt Me" vest and advertise that I'm adoptable....Adoptable Debbie Dog.

My foster mom was happy to accompany me.  She's lived in Montgomery County for 20 years now, has never before attended, but has always been curious.  I didn't go inside any of the buildings, but there were plenty of tents set up for me to visit.

The first booth I visited was Manna.  Manna Food Center fights hunger in Montgomery County by collecting and distributing food.  Many people stopped by the booth to drop off cans of food.  Others signed up to help as volunteers.  I heard that Manna is a great place for high school kids such as my 14 year old to earn their SSL hours.  Manna serves more than 3,600  households each month and more than 2,100 elementary school children each week. So they rely on a lot of volunteers.

The next booth I visited was Gibbons Rock Studio.  They do charcoal and pastel fine art portraits of pets!  The artist, Suzanne, was busy working on a portrait so she wasn't able to come pet me...but lots of other people did!  My 14 year old has just started drawing with charcoal.  While I was getting petted by lots of nice people, Suzanne showed her how she sketches from pictures people send her.  Nice to meet a local artist from Point of Rocks, MD.

A booth that I frequently visited was Colonial Wagon and Wheel.  They sell home and garden decor such as metal flower pot holders,  pumpkin holders, bird baths, and structures that can be used as scare crows.  Unlike some of the other booths with delicate pottery, jewelry, clothes, etc., their booth was safe for me to explore and sniff.

Tons of people noticed my new "Adopt Me" vest, gave me lots of love, and told stories about their rescue dogs! I praised over 30 kids for good protocol with greeting me and they all got a Debbie sticker!
