Vote on 455-Dwelling Proposal Expected Thursday

The site would inhabit 26.5 acres of land west of Germantown Town Center

The Montgomery County Planning Board will decide Thursday whether to approve site and preliminary plans for a 455-dwelling development west of Germantown Town Center.

Known as the Martens property, the development would inhabit 26.5 acres of land near the intersection of Wisteria Drive and Waters Road and would abut a 36-acre complex with 604 residences along Father Hurley and Waterford Hills boulevards, according to planning department records.

The planning department staff has recommended the board approve the site and preliminary plans with conditions.

In September, Patch reported that the planning board unanimously approved legal resolutions that finalized the application for the proposed development's project plan.

According to planning staff’s Nov. 17 report, the development could add 57 elementary school students to the Montgomery County Public Schools System’s Northwest Cluster.

The report stated that two property owners had expressed initial concern over how Waters Road would be made to connect with Germantown Road. As part of the process, the report said, the developers were to required to “design the final alignment and identify future dedications” for the construction of the Waters Road connection to Germantown Road, but were not required to build it.
