Grab your calendars! Here are this week's best bets for Germantown families.

Between the heat and the thunderstorms, this has been a tricky summer for outdoor plans!  Be sure to add some indoor events to round out your weekly calendar.  Here are some fun local activities — indoors and out — to consider:    

OPEN GYM AT ROMP N' ROLL
Need a break from the heat?  Kids through age 6 will enjoy running around this indoor playground.  Open gym hours vary daily, but last at least two hours, with today's (Wednesday's) session slated from 1:45 to 7 p.m. and Friday's session from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Call 301-528-7655 for more information.

PICK-YOUR-OWN THORNLESS BLACKBERRIES
It's blackberry season!  Pick your fill at $2.49 per pound.  You can bring your own bucket or purchase one there.

BE WITH ME PLAYSEUM
Getting bored with your usual haunts?  Take a short drive & visit this quaint indoor children's museum complete with a sand box, an art studio, live animals and more!  For an extra fee, your kids can make their own edible lip gloss or craft a fruit smoothie while you browse the used books for sale.  Call 301-807-8028 for more information.

If you haven't been to the Splash Playground yet this season, now is a great time to go!  You won't even feel the heat as you dash through the water maze, stand under the bucket drop or sit on the spraying animals.  After you've cooled off, enjoy 18 holes of miniature golf.  You can even have a pizza delivered onsite!  For more information, call 301-670-4680.

This week, the Kamp Kreatures' puppet show comes to the concert stage. Arrive early with your blanket and sun block to find a good space on the lawn. Concerts may be cancelled due to inclement weather.

PASSPORT TO FUN CRAFT EVENTS
This week marks the end of Michaels' globe-trotting summer program.  These make-it, take-it events are designed for ages 3 and older. This week, explore the art and culture of South Africa (Thursday) and Brazil (Saturday).

Price: Free on Thursday, cost of mask on Saturday

OUTDOOR CONCERT: MELANIE MASON
Families are invited to experience the soothing folk and indie-rock sounds of this acclaimed musician.  Bring lawn chairs, a blanket and a picnic to enjoy on the lawn.  Concerts may be cancelled or brought indoors due to inclement weather.  Call 301-528-2260 for more information.

PRESCHOOL FILM FEST
Enjoy four to six short films based on popular children picture books. This program is designed for children ages 2 to 6, attending with a caregiver. Siblings welcome. No registration necessary.

KIDS NIGHT
This week, enjoy a circus show performed by Unicycle Lady and her dog Enzo. From 5 to 9 p.m., a number of restaurants also offer special meal deals for families.
