Grab & Go Kids Planner: March 16 - 22

A summary of the week's best bets for Germantown families.

Remember to wear green tomorrow to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!  Over the weekend, take the family to see Hairspray at Northwest High School.  Head on over to Gaithersburg for the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show or go to Rockville and see the Metropolitan Ballet perform Hansel & Gretel.  These are Germantown's best bets for families this week:

OPEN GYM CLINICS
Where/When: Hills Gymnastics in Gaithersburg, weekdays from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. and Sunday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Why Go: Kids love to run and tumble on real gymnastics equipment.  Children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult.  
Pricing: $8 per child on weekdays, $13 per child on Sundays.


Where/When: Discovery Sports Center, Thursday (and next Monday) from 10 a.m. until noon. 
Why Go: Enjoy this fun indoor open space while it lasts!  The last play time for the season is March 31.  Be sure to bring along your favorite riding toys.   
Pricing: Kids up to 11 months are free; $2 per child ages 1 through 10.

PENNY THEATRE
Where/When: Quince Orchard Public Library, Thursday at 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.
Why Go: Your 3 to 6-year-old children will love this special performance just for them (and their parents or caregivers).  See "Who's in Rabbit's House?" and "Curious George."  Call 240-777-0200 ahead of time to register.
Pricing: Free!


Where/When: Great Beginnings, Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. 
Why Go: Enjoy some time with other parents while your little one makes new friends.  Sponsored by NorthMetroDCMommies

Where/When: Northwest High School Auditorium, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.   
Why Go: Northwest High's spring musical promises big voices and even bigger hair!       
Pricing: $10 adults and $8 students (at the door). 


Where/When: Germantown Public Library, Saturday at 11 a.m.
Why Go: Enjoy a puppet show for the whole family with a "Circus on Strings."
Pricing: Free!

HANSEL & GRETEL
Where/When: Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center at Montgomery College in Rockville, Saturday at 1 p.m. or 5 p.m.
Why Go:  The whole family can enjoy this performance by the Metropolitan Ballet Theatre and Academy.
Pricing: $20 for general admission; Call 301-762-1757 to reserve your seats or order tickets online.

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID EVENT
Where/When: Borders in the Neelsville Shopping Center, Saturday at 2 p.m. 
Why Go: Kids ages 8 to 12 are invited to try a trivia contest and enjoy Wimpy activities in celebration of the upcoming new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, Rodrick Rules, in theatres March 25.  Call 301-528-0862 for more information.

Where/When: Building 6, halls 2 & 3 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go:  Enjoy educational displays of rocks and minerals of the Gem, Lapidary & Mineral Society of Montgomery County.  Kids get free rock samples & can dig for minerals.
Pricing: $6 for adults, children under 12 free, scouts in uniform free.

STEPPING STONES STORY TIME
Where/When: Damascus Public Library, Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.
Why Go:  Damascus Public Library is known for fun, interactive story times.  This event is for newborns through age 5 and their parents or caregivers; children ages 3 to 5 may attend by themselves.  For more information, call 240-773-9444.
