Grab & Go Kids Planner: September 14 - 20

Grab your calendar! The Great Frederick Fair opens this week and the Celebrate Gaithersburg festival is planned for Sunday.

There are some terrific events to enjoy this weekend in neighboring Gaithersburg and Frederick.  Don't miss — the planned events for kids were too numerous to include here and most are free.  Enjoy your week! 

TWILIGHT TOTS
See Kidsinger Jim and his "POSITIVE-ly Fun" rock concert.  In case of inclement weather, concerts may be moved indoors to the RIO center atrium; check the Washingtonian Center Facebook page for updated information.

Are you a stay-at-home mom looking to meet other moms? Come to the open house and learn more about MOMS Clubs in our area. The Germantown-North MOMS Club serves families with children at Waters Landing, Sally Ride, William Gibbs and Lake Seneca Elementary Schools.  There will be crafts for the kids.  In case of inclement weather, this event will be rescheduled to 10 a.m. Sept. 21 and will be held indoors in the community room of Germantown's OBA Bank.

THE GREAT FREDERICK FAIR
Still haven't made it to the fair this year?  Drive to neighboring Frederick County, Md., and enjoy live music, a kids expo, farm animals, a jousting exhibition, a birthing center (with baby piglets) and more!  Check the schedule of events for details. 
Where: Frederick Fairgrounds, 797 E. Patrick Street, Frederick, Md. 
When: 5 to 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16; 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 through Saturday, Sept. 24
Price: Free admission on Friday, Sept. 16; otherwise $7 for adults, free for kids 10 and younger.  Various discounts apply.  Parking costs $7 onsite or $5 offsite.  Carnival hours and prices vary; visit the Carnival Homepage for details.  Extra charge for evening events (such as concerts by Vince Gill and Kellie Pickler) in the grandstand.

THINGS THAT ROLL PRESCHOOL PROGRAM
Do you have kids ages 2 through 6?  Bring them to the Gaithersburg Skate Park with their favorite wheeled toys: scooters, bikes, anything with wheels. Don't forget their helmets (required).  If it rains, the event is cancelled.  For more information, call 301-258-6359.

DOLLHOUSE MINIATURE WORKSHOPS
The Damascus Heritage Society Museum and the Damascus Public Library are sponsoring a series of craft workshops for kids. Pie and bread, for ages 6 and up, will run at 1 and 1:30 p.m.; birdhouse with bird, for ages 8 and up, at 2 p.m.; and fall wreath, for ages 10 and older, at 3 and 3:30 p.m. Tweezers are recommended.  Space is limited; sign-up in person today or Saturday at the Damascus Heritage Society Museum.  The museum is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. and is located next to the library at 9701 Main St., Damascus. Classes will be held at the library.

A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD
This Theatre for Young Audiences musical follows two friends — cheerful Frog and rather grumpy Toad — through a year of seasonal activities that celebrate their friendship.  The hour-long performance is recommended for ages 4 and older. For more information and tickets call 301-258-6394.

CELEBRATE GAITHERSBURG
It's the 30th annual celebration of Gaithersburg!  Come to the Olde Towne Street Festival and enjoy music, a dance exhibition, food, arts and crafts.  Take the kids to the educational Green Zone to learn about animals.  Ride in a horse-drawn wagon, climb a rock wall or try carnival games.  For more information, call 301-258-6359.  If the weather looks questionable, please check the City of Gaithersburg website for announcements.

STEPPING STONES STORY TIME
Children age 5 and younger can enjoy stories, songs and activities. Kids age 2 and younger must attend with a caregiver. Siblings are welcome and no registration is necessary.

Price: Free

FAMILY COSMIC BOUNCE NIGHT
Enjoy bouncing in the dark with your kids.  Recommended for ages 6 and up.  Call 301-515-5665 to make reservations.  Don't forget to bring socks!
