It's Officially Pool Season

Germantown Outdoor Pool opens for the season with a splash. The pool is open on Memorial Day, from noon to 6 p.m.

Though storms threatened and crowds were lighter than usual, the day turned out to be perfect for a trip to Germantown Outdoor Pool on Saturday, opening day of pool season.

The sounds of summer were unmistakable — splashing, laughter, outdoor voices and the chirp of lifeguards' whistles — as local families took advantage of the pool's many features.

Nicole Fernandes of Germantown said she wouldn't be anywhere else on opening day. She said she's known as “the mayor” of Germantown Outdoor Pool and brings her son and daughter to the pool every weekday in the summer.

"It's just a really safe, fun place to be," Fernandes said. "The lifeguards have always been great here. They're always on top of everything."

For the kids, the most popular features at the pool include two giant slides, diving boards, a snack bar and a volleyball court.

The Germantown Outdoor Pool is one of eight outdoor pools in the county. Registration allows affords to access any of the eight.

For now, the pool will only be open on weekends from noon to 6 p.m., and will be open on Memorial Day, today. But beginning June 13, families can visit the pool every day.
