Parent's Date Night to Benefit Boys and Girls Club

The Germantown Boys & Girls Club offers Valentine's Day babysitting to benefit their Keystone teen program.

Looking for a chance to go out–just the two of you–on Valentine’s Day? Well, the Germantown Boys and Girls Club might be able to help. The club's Teens in Action program will be offering childcare services for two nights, so you can enjoy a Valentine’s night with your hubby. The cost is $25.

For parents may drop off their children at the club located at 19910 Frederick Road. The event happens Friday, Feb. 11 from 7:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Monday, Feb. 14. from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

BGCGW Teen Director Jessica Bond said activities for children would include Kinect, Wii, gym options and a movie. Dinner will also be provided. Children from kindergarten thru seventh grade are invited to attend.

Proceeds from the event will go to benefit the club's Keystone teen program’s trip to the Keystone Regional Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in October.

During the conference, teens will participate in a variety of workshops including resume building and SMART (Strength, Mastery, Resistance and Training) programs designed to keep teens from using narcotics, alcohol or having sex.

To qualify to attend the conference, Teens in action must fulfill a variety of service projects. In addition to their valentine event, Teens in Action will be taking a field trip to the Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring to donate bagged lunches to the homeless on Friday, Feb.11 before working the “Parents Date Night.”

Last year, the Teens in Action made care packages for the troops overseas as their community project to qualify to attend the conference.

According to Bond, the Keystone program is intended to “strengthen character and leadership in order for teenagers to grow into responsible adults in their community”. The program is open to boys and girls ages 14 to 18. Currently there are 30 teens from the upcounty on the BGCGW roster and 12 participants in the Teens in Action program.
