Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Montgomery County

A cold front is also on the way, according to the National Weather Service.

The severe thunderstorm warning has been extended until 5 p.m. A thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.

The National Weather Service issues "warnings" when conditions posing a threat to life or property are present, imminent, or very likely to occur. 

A "watch" is issued when such conditions are likely to occur, but where and/or when they will occur is uncertain.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect in Montgomery County as thunderstorms roll into the area.

The warning is in effect until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm was detected near Rockville, moving east at about 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

 “This is a dangerous storm,” according to NWS. “If you are in its path … move indoors… and stay away from windows.”

A severe thunderstorm watch will remain in effect until 10 p.m.

A cold front is also in the forecast for this evening and into the night, according to the NWS.
