UPDATE: The MARC Brunswick Line has been reopened, delays expected

MARC service was temporarily suspended after a person was struck by a freight train near Gaithersburg.

Passengers of the MARC Brunswick line should expect delays of 10 to 15 miutes, due to a CSX train fatality near Gaithersburg earlier on Monday, according to the Maryland Transit Authority.

The Brunswick Line has reopened shortly after 4 p.m., according to the MTA. Trains are OK to pass the scene of the earlier incident at significantly reduced speed.

The Brunswick Line closed after a person was struck by a CSX train near Chestnut Street. According to Montgomery County Police, the incident happened at around 1:22 p.m. Monday.

Police have not confirmed the gender of the person hit and said the person's identity would be released upon confirmation and after next of kin was notified. 

Police said CSX train service has been suspended in the area while the investigation is in progress. The intersections between South Summit Street and Chestnut Street will be closed while the investigation continues.
