Concert: Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain

Anarchic, funny and mind-bogglingly versatile, this virtuosic “orchestra” takes on and transforms iconic works from Beethoven to The Who and Isaac Hayes in a collision of post-punk performance, toe-tapping oldies and classical canon. Among the world’s most important contemporary ukulele ensembles, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of all-singing, all-strumming uke players which believes that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation. “There are lots of yuks in ukes: physical comedy, pun-filled banter between songs and stacks of fleeting musical allusions within each piece keep the orchestra’s show lively” (The New York Times). Concert-goers can bring a uke and join a strum-along with the artists during the concert.
