"On Golden Pond"

The Arts Barn, the City of Gaithersburg's premiere cultural arts facility, presents a Rockville Little Theater Production of the love story,  "On Golden Pond" by Ernest Thompson, December 3 through 19, 2010.  Performances will be held Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.  Admission is $15, $13 for City of Gaithersburg residents.  Parental guidance is suggested. This play contains occasional mild profanity and may not be suitable for some pre-teens.

This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for their 48th summer. Soon after their arrival, they are visited by their divorced, middle-aged daughter and her fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son, Billy, behind for the summer. Norman is a retired professor, nearly 80, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued, observant and eager for life as ever. Norman and Billy quickly develop a genuine friendship while spending their days fishing. The boy becomes the "grandchild" the elderly couple has longed for.  Norman and Ethel are brought closer together, not only by Billy, but by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time, they know, is now against them, but the years have been good and, perhaps, another summer on the lake still awaits.
