Gov. O’Malley’s Band Books Germantown Show

O'Malley's March will perform charity show at BlackRock in June.

This summer, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will take a break from his day job to perform with his Irish folk band in Germantown.

His band, O’Malley’s March, is booked for a June 29 concert at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Revenues from the $50 and $150 ticket sales will support BlackRock’s arts education programs and performances, the Germantown arts venue announced Wednesday.

According to BlackRock spokeswoman Laurie Levy-Page, the concert is the result of BlackRock’s executive director Krista Bradley’s introduction to the governor at the Montgomery County Executive Ball in December.

“Knowing that he is a musician, [Bradley] said she’d love to have him and his band play at BlackRock,” Levy-Page said in an email to Patch. “Through more conversations that evening and shortly thereafter between the governor and BlackRock board members and mutual friends, it became clear that he wanted to play—and to make the concert a fundraiser in support BlackRock’s arts education programs and performances.”
