Jazz Bassist Ben Williams Performs at BlackRock Saturday

Showtime is 8 p.m. Saturday at BlackRock Center for the Arts

On Saturday, it pays to be young at BlackRock Center for the Arts.

The Germantown venue is offering $15 tickets to patrons younger than 30 for jazz bassist Ben Williams' concert on Saturday. Tickets for all others cost between $29 and $32, according to Laurie Levy-Page, a spokeswoman for the theater.

Williams, a Washington, DC native, won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Competition in 2009. His quintet, Sound Effect, includes Marcus Strickland on sax, Matt Stevens on guitar, Gerald Clayton on the keys and John Davis on percussion.

Prior to the performance, Ben Williams & Sound Effect will lead a free workshop for jazz and string students of all ages, from 3 to 4 p.m. Attendees should bring their instruments; RSVP to 240-912-1057.
