BlackRock Center for the Arts will open its fall season with jazz artist Ravi Coltrane, the son of tenor sax legend John Coltrane.

A theater spokeswoman said Monday that saxophonist Ravi Coltrane would open the season with a concert Saturday, Sept. 17, offering a jazzy start to the Germantown theater’s commemoration of its 10th anniversary. Other jazz shows at BlackRock include a November performance by vocalist Rene Marie and an October concert by Baltimore pianist Matt Wigler, according to those artists’ websites.

BlackRock has scheduled five holiday shows, including the Eric Byrd Trio’s take on Charlie Brown Christmas, the National Philharmonic Singers’ performance of the Hallelujah Chorus, and selections from concert pianist Brian Ganz, according to a press release from BlackRock.
