Compared to County, Germantown Residents Give Less to Charity

Chronicle of Philanthropy published data on how much residents of every ZIP code donate to charity.

When compared to countywide and statewide levels of giving, Germantown residents gave a smaller percentage of their incomes to charity, according to recent study by the Chronicle of Philanthropy.

The Chronicle’s study published data on how much residents of every ZIP code in the United States donate to charity, based on 2008 IRS tax return information.

For the Germantown ZIP codes provided in the study — 20876 and 20874:

  • Residents who lived in the 20867 ZIP code donated $12.3 million to charity, 4.9 percent of their discretionary incomes.
  • Residents who lived in the 20874 ZIP code donated $32.7 million to charity, or 4.7 percent of their discretionary incomes.
