Cyclist Seriously Injured in Fall on Seneca Creek Trail

Cyclist was air-lifted from Quince Orchard High School parking lot late Friday morning.

A cyclist who fell along the Seneca Creek Trail was airlifted to the hospital after rescuers hiked a mile into the woods to find him, Montgomery County fire officials said.

At around 9 a.m. Friday, rescuers were called to the 16500 block of Germantown Road for reports of an injured male deep in the woods, according to Beth Anne Nesselt, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokeswoman.

Rescuers were led to the cyclist by a bystander who called 9-1-1. But ambiguously marked trails, spotty cell phone reception and storm debris hampered rescue efforts. As many as 25 fire fighters were involved, according to Nesselt.
