Details Emerge in Apparent Germantown Murder-Suicide

Michelle Miller, 17, was “smitten” by a man police say shot and killed her, The Washington Post reported.

A clearer picture is emerging of what may have led to the death of a Rockville High School student and the Army staff sergeant who police say shot her before turning the gun on himself.

Michelle Miller, a 17-year-old senior, was shot and killed by Adam Anthony Arndt, 31, who then shot himself at his home in Germantown on Monday.

According to media accounts, Miller had planned to go to college in Arizona and had enlisted in the Army Reserve. Ardnt supervised her recruitment, according to published reports.

Her father, Kevin Miller, told the The Washington Post that his daughter was “smitten” with Ardnt. He said he didn’t know if the two were romantically involved but said the “chances were pretty good,” the newspaper reported.

“She used to show a picture of him on her camera,” Kevin Miller told The Post.

Ultimately it was her dad who led Montgomery County police to Germantown, where her body was found, WJLA reported.

Michelle Miller reportedly left her family's Rockville home on Sunday night to help a “suicidal” friend and was sending ominous messages like “I Love You” and “Goodbye” until her phone died around midnight, WJLA reports.

Her dad used his daughter’s text messages to place her in Germantown, where police found her dead in the bathroom of Arndt's home.
