Emergency ‘Snowquester’ Contacts for Germantown

Where to find information on road closures, cancellations and updates

What’s been dubbed the worst snowstorm of the season, the so-called snowquester is making its way toward Germantown, bringing as much as 9 inches of snow with it by Thursday morning.

As Montgomery County braces for the storm, here are some resources to help you prepare:

Closures

  • Montgomery County Public Schools—MontgomerySchoolsMD.org/emergency.
  • Public facilities/Cancellations—Check Montgomery County’s website for updates on community use of public facilities and other cancellations.
  • Alert Montgomery—The county’s alert system can disseminate updates and warnings via email and text. Subscribe at Alert.MontgomeryCountyMD.gov.

Traffic, road conditions

Snow Plow Map—Find out which streets have been cleared on Montgomery County’s snow plow tracking map. Major incidents on state highways can be tracked at the State Highway Administration’s website.

Public transit—RideOn and WMATA are posting updates online. WMATA has cancelled MetroAccess service for Wednesday. As of noon Tuesday, MARC had not made a decision about service for Wednesday.  MARC advisories are posted at MTA.Maryland.gov.

Downed trees, other public safety concerns

Residents should call 3-1-1. To report trees that have fallen on utility lines, contact local utility companies:

  • BG&E 877-778-2222
  • First Energy/Potomac Edison 1-800-255-3443 (Allegheny)
  • PEPCO 877-737-2662

Call 9-1-1 to report “hot” wires or sparking wires, especially those across roadways.

Residents concerned about the well-being of children, elderly individuals or adults with disabilities should call the county’s Crisis Center at 240-777-4000.
