This means (e-book) war? | Germantown lawmaker introduces e-book resolution

Public libraries that offer e-books are charged around $75 per book—up to three times as much as the consumer price. I paid less than $7 to download The Hobbit.  Um, not fair? Montgomery County Council Vice President Craig Rice, who represents Germantown, thinks so. Last week, he introduced a resolution urging state and federal governments to challenge publishers to stop overcharging libraries. Montgomery County Isiah Leggett is urging the council to support the resolution. More information is available at the county’s website.

Act of Kindess | Yay! No more chemo for Rett Bush.

Rett Bush, 5, of Germantown, celebrated the end of his chemotherapy treatment with a party Saturday in Montgomery Village, a spokeswoman for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society tells Patch. Rett was diagnosed with blood cancer in January 2011. His final chemo treatment—the 914th — on July 11. Lauded as a hero by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Bush was among the honorees at last year’s Light the Night Walk in Rockville Town Square. 

 

So it really is about the wings … | Germantown mom enters Hooters wing contest

Germantown mom Juliet Lee will compete in the Worldwide Wing Eating Championship finale Thursday at the original Hooters restaurant in Clearwater, Fla., a spokeswoman for the contest tells Patch. Lee—a former chemistry professor—will have 10-minutes to eat as many wings as she can. She took second place at this year’s Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest. She ate 33 hotdogs in 10 minutes.
