Heat Advisory in Effect for Montgomery County

Forecasts call for highs in the mid- to upper 90s, with heat index values of 100 to 105.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. today for Montgomery County and the surrounding region.

Forecasts call for highs in the mid- to upper 90s, with heat index values of 100 to 105, plus high humidity. Young children, elderly and pets are at greatest risk for heat-related illness.

The NWS has also issued a code orange air quality alert, which means there is a heavier concentration of air pollution — which may be unhealthy for children, elderly, and people with asthma and other respiratory issues.

During periods of extreme heat, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends drinking more fluids — ideally nonalcoholic beverages and beverages that don’t have large amounts of sugar — and limiting outdoor activity, resting often and taking breaks in shady areas.

The NWS advises against leaving pets or children in cars, where temperatures can reach 130 degrees.
