Large Black Bear Spotted in Germantown on Friday

MCPD 5th District Cmdr. Luther Reynolds said 'The bear was not hostile.'

Montgomery County Police received several calls about a large black bear wandering through backyards in Germantown late Friday night.

Cmd. Luther Reynolds, of Montgomery County Police Department's 5th District, said the bear was spotted around Hickory Tree Way, Quail Woods Drive and Waring Station Road. Reynolds said the police department received initial calls at around 10:45 p.m., and notified Maryland Department of Natural Resources, which responded at around 11:45 p.m.

"The bear was not hostile," Reynolds said.
