Major Hiring Event For Vets Planned Today

More than 30 companies seek to fill more than 2,000 positions in the Washington, D.C. metro region.

BETHESDA — Are you a military veteran in search of a job?

A major hiring event for vets, wounded warriors, transitioning service members and military spouses is planned for Saturday on the campus of Bethesda’s The event is organized by the 100,000 Jobs Mission – a coalition of 59 companies aiming to hire 100,000 U.S. military vets by 2020.

More than 30 major employers seek to fill more than 2,000 positions in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region and thousands more across the country, according to a media announcement. Industries include defense, technology, customer service, health care, financial services and retail, among others, and open positions range from entry-level to senior management.

Some of the recruiters, vets themselves, can help translate military experience into relevant job skills.

Vets are encouraged to register and upload their resumes in advance so employers can schedule interviews during the event  – prospective employees may even be offered jobs on the spot, according to the campaign.

Some of the companies involved include Lockheed Martin, Bank of America/Merrill Lunch, Cisco Systems, Office Depot, Time Warner Cable and IBM.

The event is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Naval Support Activity Bethesda -- the campus that houses the Walter Reed military hospital -- in the gymnasium, or Building 17. Naval Support Activity Bethesda is located at 8901 Wisconsin Avenue.

Business attire is encouraged and vets will need their military ID's to enter.
