MARC: Track Work Will Disrupt Brunswick Line Commute

Train No. 891 won't travel past Germantown from April 30-May 3

Passengers of the Brunswick Line train that leaves Union Station at 3:50 p.m. (train No. 891) won’t be able to travel past Germantown due to scheduled track work Monday, April 30, to Thursday, May 3, the Maryland Transit Administration announced.

CSX Transportation is replacing steel rails between Point of Rocks and Frederick Junction. Though most of the work would be performed midday, state transit officials said disruptions were unavoidable.

  • Riding Washington Metrorail to Shady Grove. From there, passengers can board the MTA No. 991 Commuter Bus to downtown Frederick, Md.  In addition to regularly scheduled 991 departures at 4:15 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., an extra bus dedicated to MARC passengers will leave Shady Grove at 4:35 p.m.
  • Riding MARC 873 or 875 to Point of Rocks, Md. Dedicated Frederick Transit buses will meet both trains and operate nonstop to Monocacy and, upon request, to downtown Frederick.  Capacity on this shuttle service will be limited.

In addition, the No. 893 train (5:15 p.m. departure from Union Station) will operate with an additional car; the No. 892 train (6:05 a.m. departure from Frederick, Md.,) will also have an additional car.

No other trains are affected, however, other Frederick, Md., trains may experience 5 to 10 minute delays due to speed restrictions imposed by the track work, state transit officials said.
