Plan Would Add 456 Residences in Germantown

Project's application would likely go to the Montgomery County Planning Board in October.

A favorable vote from the Montgomery County Planning Board on Thursday set the stage for a developer’s plans to build 456 townhouses and apartments west of Germantown Town Center.

The board unanimously approved legal resolutions that finalized the application for a project plan. The project plan would likely go to the board in October, Montgomery County Planning Department spokeswoman Valerie Berton said.

Known as the Martens property, the project proposes to build 170 townhouses and 286 apartment units on 26.5 acres of land near the intersection of Wisteria Drive and Waters Road, according to documents submitted to the county planning department.

The development would border an existing 36-acre complex with more than 600 residences along Father Hurley and Waterford Hills boulevards, according to county records.

Buchanan Acquisitions was listed as the applicant for the proposed Martens property and the existing 36-acre property along Father Hurley. The firm is a limited liability company registered in Virginia, with a principal office in Dulles, according to Virginia tax records. County and state records list an address in Gaithersburg.
