Shuttle Buses Replace Trains on Red Line

Free shuttle buses will replace trains between the Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations this weekend.

Attention, Red Line riders: Free shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains between the Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations this weekend, causing delays along the line.

From 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, through closing Sunday, Aug. 19, work crews will focus on tie and insulator renewal, structural work, platform reconstruction and fiber optic cable installation along the closed segment of the Red Line, according to Metro's website.

Red Line trains will operate in two segments this weekend:

  • Between Glenmont and Silver Spring, every 10 minutes during the day and at regular weekend intervals at other times.
  • Between NoMa-Gallaudet U and Shady Grove, every 10 minutes during the day and at regular weekend intervals at other times.

"Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Silver Spring and NoMa-Gallaudet U stations. Three stations—Takoma, Brookland and Rhode Island Ave—will be closed. Fort Totten Station will be open for Green and Yellow line service only," Metro's website added.

Metro riders taking the free shuttle buses should add on about 50 minutes to their trip.

Last train information:

"On Friday night, the last Red Line trains to operate through the [work] area before work begins will be the 9:03 p.m. departure from Shady Grove and the 9:37 p.m. departure from Glenmont."

And, on Friday and Saturday nights, the last train leaving Glenmont will depart 47 minutes earlier than usual—at 1:50 a.m. On Sunday night, the last train leaving Glenmont will depart at 10:50 p.m. (also 47 minutes earlier than usual). This will allow for shuttle bus connections, Metro added.
