UPDATE: Southbound I-270 lanes are now open

Lanes near I-495 east had closed after Salvation Army truck caught fire.

Update, 5 p.m.: Lanes have reopened on southbound Interstate 270, between Old Georgetown Road and eastbound Interstate 495, after a vehicle fire stopped traffic late Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Oscar Garcia, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire And Rescue Service, said a Salvation Army pick-up truck with a trailer caught fire, leaving burnt debris scattered in the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

Garcia said the incident was reported at around 2 p.m.; Montgomery County Fire and Rescue tweeted about the lane closures at around 2:38 p.m.

Garcia said two engines and a stand-by ambulance responded to the scene, and left the scene before 4 p.m.

Original Post, 3 p.m.: All lanes of southbound I-270, between Old Georgetown Road and I-495 east, have been closed due to a vehicle fire.

The lanes would be closed for at least a half hour to 45 minutes, said Capt. Oscar Garcia, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire And Rescue Service.

Garcia said a pick-up truck that was hauling a trailer caught fire. No injuries were reported.
