Blog: Time To Dance!!!!

National Dance Day is this Saturday (July 28, 2012). What are you planning on doing to celebrate?

Saturday, July 28 is National Dance Day......did you know that?  This is a day to celebrate the art of movement that is dance.

National Dance Day is coordinated by the Dizzy Feet Foundataion which helps students learn to dance in all ways possible.  Their mantra is "Changing Lives Through Dance" and they offer scholarships, programs, define standards, you name it! Because they believe, as do I, that DANCE is a wonderful form of expression, exercise and is just plain old FUN!!!!!

I know that Dizzy Feet Foundation has comissioned the creation of two new routines for people to perform on Saturday, but that's now how I choose to celebrate this year.  I'm planning on something a little more local.  I'm going to visit Ballerina's Dance Studio (on Sunday, July 29), The Studio of Dance.  They are having an open house to help bring in dancers, young and old.

What makes the Studio of Dance so wonderful to me is that they are the only studio that I know of who has created a program specifically to address the special needs community (specifically Autism, but other developmental issues are welcome).  This is something that the owner, Karen Conner, did by me simply asking for it.  She agrees with me that children with special needs deserve the opportunity to learn to dance and she and her staff have worked to give these kids that opportunity.  It's something that my Ballerina looks forward to every weekend and I can't wait for her to return to it in the fall.

So, as an Autism Mom, I invite all of you to The Studio of Dance's Open House on Sunday, July 29 from 12 to 6.  It may be a day late, but it's a PERFECT way to celebrate National Dance Day!
