One of those weeks

Summary of the past week, and things to come for summer. Link to a cool video of a shuttle launch from a passing plane.

So a lot has happened since my previous post.  Some good, some bad, some outright ridiculous occurrences.  It's been a helluva week, but it is summer now!

Yet another tragedy has struck the community with the death of 3 Magruder alumni, all younger than myself.  I sorta knew the people involved but not like directly.  My condolences go out to all those directly impacted by the incident, really gets one thinking about life and such.

On the brighter side of life I had a great time last Wednesday at the 8x10 in Baltimore seeing a newish local band called Kill Lincoln.  Such a phenomenal show, it's ska/punk genre of music and very energetic and fun to listen to.  Everyone was dancing and moving to the music, everyone was having a great time.  I highly recommend seeing Kill Lincoln live, I think the next show is at DC 9.

The foreign embassies in DC have been hosting open houses the past couple weeks; 2 weeks ago was the EU open house and last week was embassies from other countries around the world.  I went both weekends, highly impressed by the EU open houses but a little disappointed with the rest last weekend.  I went with an old friend I haven't seen in years and caught up, and we visited many countries including Japan, Haiti, Egypt, Pakistan, and Thailand.  I think I was spoiled from the free food and beer at the EU union open house, since there was nothing of the sort at these embassies.  Still a good time though, and rather informative about the respective countries.

It's fixing to be a great summer though, right now I'm looking forward to the Chesapeake Blues Fest this coming weekend, the Joni Mitchell Songbook show in Gtown Thursday, Delfest in Cumberland Memorial day; and hopefully upon hopefullies, I'll be seeing the final shuttle launch of Atlantis at the end of June (provided no repairs are needed and the launch date isn't scrubbed).  I'm really excited for that, space and rockets have always piqued my interest and to be able to be at the final launch would be a moment in history I'd relish and never forget.  Just imagining the sound and the view reminds me of this youtube video I saw once, it's the view of a shuttle launch from a commercial flight.  Quite awesome indeed.

Well I'll keep posting updates here and there, but for now it's time to go clean my fish tank.  Enjoy your day!
