Updated: Two Brush Fires Under Investigation

Fires near Great Seneca Highway, along railroad tracks and near Bent Willow Circle, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue officials said Friday.

(Updated 7:13 p.m.) Two separate brush fires in Germantown on Friday are under investigation.

At around 1:09 p.m. Montgomery County Fire & Rescue crews responded to a fire reported in a field near Great Seneca Highway and the CSX train tracks, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Cpt. Oscar Garcia told Patch.

The area on fire was about 100-feet-by-100-feet, Garcia said.

About 15 to 20 minutes later, fire officials received reports of smouldering bushes in a field about a quarter-mile away, in a 100-feet-by-400-feet area near Bent Willow and Great Seneca Highway, Garcia said.

Between 18 to 20 firefighters extinguished the fires; fire officials were on scene for about two hours.

Garcia said there was no evacuation order issued for residences nearby; there were no interruptions of CSX service.

Garcia said the fire had been contained and said there was no evacuation order in place for residences nearby.

Garcia said the "bulk" of the fire had been extinguished but firefighters were being mindful of smouldering materials. At least a half dozen firefighters were on the scene.
