Commuter Alert: I-270 Incident Blocks Southbound Lane

A fatal accident involves pedestrian.

Update, 7:56 a.m.: A fatal collision on southbound Interstate 270 involved a pedestrian and a tractor trailer, according to Maryland State Police.

The collision occurred at around 5:45 a.m. and is still under investigation, state police said.

The right lanes of southbound I-270 were closed just before Germantown Road. As of 6:30 a.m., a four-mile back-up was reported due to the lane closures, said Lora Rakowski, a State Highway Administration spokewswoman.

Update, 6:47 a.m.: A state police spokesman at the Rockville barracks said the incident is a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. The lanes will be closed for some time.
