CRIME REPORT | Germantown man charged with assault, robbery

Kareem Omar, 35, of Germantown, charged in April 13 strong-armed robbery in Gaithersburg.

Updated (1:30 p.m.) --- The following information is from incident summary reports provided by the Montgomery County Police Department:

Germantown man charged with assault, robbery | A Germantown man was arrested in connection with a strong-armed robbery Wednesday, April 13, in the 13300 block of Great Seneca Highway, Gaithersburg. Kareem Omar, 35, of Germantown, has been charged with second-degree assault and robbery, according to Montgomery County District Court records.

According to police records filed with the court, Omar encountered the male victim at around noon on the sidewalk along Great Seneca Highway, from Clopper Road toward Dawson Farm Road. Omar threw his shoulder into the victim, knocking him backward and reportedly said, "Give me your money, white boy." The victim was unable to escape Omar's grip, police said. After a person at a nearby bus stop saw the incident, Omar reportedly told the victim "you better watch yourself next time, white boy," according to police records.

The victim walked away, according to police. Omar was arrested nearby, shortly after the incident was reported to police. 

Omar has been detained at Montgomery County Detention Center, in lieu of $25,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Friday, May 13.

Two men charged with burglary, theft | Two men were arrested in connection with a burglary April 4, in the 13300 block of Waterside Circle. David Peyton, 22, of Silver Spring, and Samir Haleem, 26, of Rockville, were indicted on burglary and theft charges, according to Montgomery County Circuit Court records. 

Armed robbery in Bank of America parking lot under investigation | Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Bank of America, 19707 Germantown Road, early on Monday, April 11. Police said that 12:40 a.m., the suspect threatened the victim and obtained property. 

Youth charged with trying to steal a dog
A burglary victim caught a juvenile trying to steal the victim's dog  and “held” the burglar until police arrived, according to Montgomery County Police Department District 5 Commander Luther Reynolds.  The incident occurred 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the 14100 block of Gallop Terrace. The juvenile was charged with burglary, Reynolds said.

Strong armed robberies near Roberto Clemente Middle School under investigation
Police investigating an assault and robbery  near Roberto Clemente Middle School, at around 3 p.m. Thursday, April 7.  Suspects threatened the victim and obtained property. There were also reports of a strong-armed robbery less than a half mile away --- Waring Station and Stoney Bottom Roads --- at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at  in which three suspects assaulted a victim and obtained property.Reynolds are looking for witnesses and information related to the incidents. He said the incidents were not school related.

In other police news:

  • A person was an assaulted by a gun-wielding suspect in the parking lot of the Bank of America, 19707 Germantown Road, at 11 p.m. Thursday, April 14.
  • Three teenage boys were arrested in connection to an April 4 burglary in the 12500 block of Crystal Rock Drive. Two 15-year-olds and a 14-year-old were taken into custody. 
  • Police said a man exposed himself to a person waiting at a bus stop in the 20900 block of Frederick Road, at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5.
  • A peeping tom incident was reported in the 12900 block of Climbing Ivy Drive on Sunday, April 17. Police said the suspect was watching the victim through a window at around 10 p.m.
